China issues new rules to regulate algorithms, targeting addiction, monopolies, and overspending · TechNode

The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) and other Chinese government agencies jointly published new rules to regulate algorithms on Jan. 4, due to take effect from March. The regulations ask algorithm providers to regularly review their products and ensure the algorithms don’t have addictive features or lure people into overspending. The new rules also bar algorithm providers from encouraging monopolistic practices and from promoting news published by unauthorized accounts. Other agencies involved are The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Public Security, and the State Administration for Market Regulation. [CAC, in Chinese]
