If you are feeling chronic pain in the small joints of your hands or feet, you may have arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis symptoms are evident with pain and swelling in those joints. This particular type of arthritis is a chronic disorder and has nothing to do with wear and tear. Instead it is directly related to the lining of the joints.
Unfortunately, it results in bone erosion and causes the formation and those joints that are affected. It is in fact an autoimmune disorder. That means that your own body is attacking its own tissues in error. It usually affects adults between the ages of 40 to 60, and is more likely to affect women than men.
Many sufferers have several symptoms. These symptoms include weight loss, tenderness around the affected joints, redness and swelling of those joints, fever, difficulty in sleeping, and fatigue. Most of them will also suffer from morning stiffness, along with the pain, which could last for a few hours.
Thankfully, in many people, the symptoms seemed to subside or even go into remission from time to time. Every now and again, they may suffer from flareups, however.
If you do suffer from this condition, it’s recommended that you try to strengthen the muscles that are close to and around the joints that are affected. But, it’s always best to see your doctor prior to doing this. Some forms of good exercise include walking, swimming, or any other form of light exercise. For hand joints, it’s always good to squeeze a stress ball.
You can also choose to use heating pads or even hot showers or baths. These can easily help to relax your aching muscles. Alternatively, cold compresses can also help. Although, it is absolutely necessary to avoid this, should you have bad circulation.
