Where do I practice at home?
Anywhere where you can be alone and concentrate is a good place to practice singing. It would be great if you could find a practice area that you can leave set up so when you are ready to practice your singing you don’t waste too much time preparing.
When do I practice singing?
It’s best to schedule a specific time and duration for your singing lessons. It up to you whether you prefer to sing in the mornings or later in the day. What’s important is that you choose a time when you’ll be best able to concentrate without too much distraction.
How long to practice singing at home?
Your skill and experience will determine how long your practice sessions will be. For beginners 15 – 20 minutes a day is plenty. As you progress you’ll probably want to lengthen your sessions to 30 – 60 minutes. But bear in mind that a focused 20 minute home singing practice session is much better than 60 minutes of unfocused practice. Also shorter regular practice is much better than occasional marathon training sessions. And if your voice gets tired then rest it.
Home singing tips
My best advice is to stop looking for reasons why you can’t sing and just start doing it. Practice in the shower or the basement if space is tight. Pressed for time? Then practice your vocal drills in the car to work or school. Don’t allow yourself to be held back. Also forget any hang ups you have about being heard during your home singing practice because with a little perseverance you will be a fantastic singer.
