Do your Pearly Whites Really need Fluoride?

Believe it or not, fluoride is bad for you even though your dentist wants to give you and your children a fluoride treatment every time you go in for a checkup. It’s not the case of dentists intentionally trying to missinform and thus intentionally harm you, but more so a case of them not being equipped adequately with the appropriate information as to what the effects are of ingesting too much fluoride in.

There once was a case of a child dying in the dentist’s chair due to a fluoride treatment. Since many people already receive enough fluoride from their water, toothpaste, and from other sources, it is important to limit any additional fluoride from being introduced into your body or the body of those you love and care for.

While many people have been lead to believe that a lot of fluoride is good for their teeth, studies have shown that areas with a higher amount of fluoride in the water have more cases of teeth decay. Too much of anything never leads to something good. This is something that you have to be careful about.

While some people would say to just completely stop ingesting fluoride, that is not something that can easily be done. Fluoride can be found in tea, air pollution, anesthetics, Scotchgard, Teflon, fluoridated public water, household products, oral dental products, and in many other places. It is almost impossible to escape.

While you may not be able to completely rid your body of fluoride intake, you can take steps to reduce your chances of an overdoes. The best thing to do is to begin avoiding anything and everything you know of that contains fluoride in it. At the end of the day you will most likely still ingest this chemical from sources you are not entirely aware of, but as with anything, the biggest step is in arming yourself with information that will assist you and your loved ones in at least being able to identify the major sources of this compound, thus eliminating the chance of an overdose of fluoride.

Start by using toothpastes that do not have fluoride in them. Also make sure that you are taking in enough vitamin B6 and vitamin C supplements. Try to stay away from non-stick pans that use Teflon as Teflon is made from fluoride. Ingesting bits of Teflon from scrapes on pans can affect your health.

It is advised that a revision of the types of foods consumed take place, and that foods such as eggs, milk, fruit, coconut, watermelon, pineapple and lemon. Make sure that you are keeping up on your dental health and that you are reducing the amount of sugars and starches that you eat.

As you can easily see, it can be very hard to completely avoid fluoride all together. But as long as you are taking as many precautions as you can you should be just fine. Try not to allow the fear of fluoride control your life but make sure that you and you are loved ones are aware of the dangers. By having knowledge you will be in a much better position to ensure that you will have good health.
