Malpractice liability costs U.S. $55.6 billion: study

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Medical malpractice liability costs the U.S. healthcare system more than $55 billion a year, most of it in "defensive" medical practices such as extra tests and scans, according to a report released on Tuesday.

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Tropical Storm Hermine strengthened in the Gulf of Mexico on Monday as it approached landfall near the U.S.-Mexico border, but oil and gas operations in the Gulf were unaffected.

REYNOSA, Mexico (Reuters) - Tropical Storm Hermine strengthened in the Gulf of Mexico on Monday, threatening to become a hurricane before landfall, but no damage was reported to U.S. or Mexican oil facilities.

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Tropical Storm Hermine, churning off Mexico's eastern coast, could reach hurricane strength winds before making landfall, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said on Monday.
